Synlait is an innovative dairy processing company headquartered in the heart of Canterbury, New Zealand, with branches in Auckland and Palmerston North. synlait is committed to combining professional agriculture with state-of-the-art processing technology to produce a range of healthy, nutritious milk products that provide consumers with better quality products for a healthy lifestyle. In 2010, Bright Dairy invested NZ$82 million to acquire a 51% stake in synlait, pioneering the first Chinese dairy company to "go global". Since then, synlait's business has grown rapidly, with revenues of over NZ$1 billion, net profits of over NZ$80 million and over 1,000 regular and temporary employees, making it a leading player in the New Zealand dairy industry.

Synlait has one of the largest integrated infant formula centres in the world and aims to provide its customers with an integrated and comprehensive supply chain from farm to consumer.

Milk is sourced from 201 local suppliers in Canterbury. Milk suppliers are required to obtain special accreditation from New Wright to ensure quality.

Company story

Synlait was founded to ensure that global consumers were able to access some of the best that New Zealand dairying had to offer. It’s all about partnering people who are passionate about business excellence, integrity and quality of product, with top quality milk and farming practices. That’s where the name Synlait comes from - Synergy and Milk.

The beginning-2000

Our first farm was purchased and the Synlait dream began. Robindale Farm quickly grew to a 3,000 cow dairy farm and remains Synlait’s largest supplying farm to this day.

Manufacturing starts-2008

The first milk was processed on the 8 August 2008 in our brand new manufacturing plant.

Expansion-2017

We acquired the Auckland-based New Zealand Dairy Company in May 2017 and commissioned a second state-of-the-art blending and consumer packaging facility there in November.

TWENTY YEARS ON AND THE FOCUS ON GROWTH CONTINUES-2020

Synlait Milk became the owner of Dairyworks Limited in April.

Synlait Milk became a Certified B Corporation™ in June. In doing so, Synlait Milk joined a global community of for-profit organisations that use business as a force for good.

Synlait Milk acquired farmland adjacent to Synlait Dunsandel in August. The land will enable Synlait Milk to pursue several strategic supply chain and sustainability initiatives that support Synlait Dunsandel’s long-term operation and expansion.

A new manufacturing supply agreement is signed with a large multi-national customer to manufacture, blend and package nutritional products which include plant-based products.
